Jessica's boys get into the sauce!

Introducing...

Meet.....Boedy Dillan Hulsman

Born June 21st, 2010 at 12:15 am, tipping the scales at 9lbs 3oz.

He sent mom into labour on Father's day, but held out on arrival to make sure he would have his own day. Not to mention to welcome in summer in a very big way.

Boedy - derived from the German term for 'messenger'. He arrived in the first 15 minutes of summer and also lands as a Gemini. His name ties into his bith date as folks of this zodiac sign tend to be great wordsmiths and communicators. Not to bad either that they are also the practical jokers of the zodiac, something that dad can appreciate.

Dillan - Of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "like a lion; loyal; son of the sea". From a couple of parents that have always had close proximity to an ocean, this one just made sense...and hey, it's plain old badass.

Mom did extremely well with delivery and is recovering great. Our little man is a people person and has been stuck to one of us most of the time.

Becoming a father was easily the most profound moment of my life to date. It was life altering , all in a moment, and still continues to build by each passing day.

Real Labor Symptoms?

OK, so I just went on to read the "Real Labor Symptoms" section of 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' and came across this statement..."Early contractions feel like gastrointestinal upset, or like heavy menstural cramps, or like lower abdominal pressure. Pain may be just in the lower abdomen or in the lower back and abdomen..."

9:00 PM, Saturday, June 19 - I am feeling all of these...

39 Weeks + 3

The Preshow - We spent most of the day relaxing, gardening (Brad gets full credit here for "we") and doing a few last minute baby preparations. I've been having some increased crampiness so decided that I would research what contractions feel like. Through this process, I landed on a description of prelabor symptoms in my 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' book. Turns out that I have experienced 6 of 9 signs listed so far. All the actors have taken stage...just waiting for the curtain to rise...

Belly Pictures

Baby Showers

Here are a few pictures from the wonderful baby shower that my aunt and cousins threw me a few weeks ago. My mom, grandmother and small group of friends attended and we shared many stories and laughs. It was especially neat to hear my grandmother's tales of raising six children and funny to see her reaction when she found out that cloth diapers now sell for $15-$25 a piece (she used to make her own for practically nothing). We had some yummy food, drinks, and played some games. I received some incredible gifts...everything from baby clothes, books, and toys...to my dad's "vintage" (hahaha) Bunnykins dishes. I can't wait to use it all. Thanks for the great pictures mom! I unfortunately do not have any of you though since you were behind the camera.

My work colleagues also threw me and the three other expecting parents in my office a posh baby shower a couple of weeks ago. I received some adorable gifts and everybody chipped in and presented me with a far-to-generous gift certificate. On top of all that, my department team took me out to lunch and gave me some fun mom-to-be presents including a gift certificate to my favourite spa. Who doesn't like a little something for herself sometimes? I have been putting the spa gift certificate to great use these past few weeks now that I'm off work and have been enjoying facials, massages, and pedicures. I am now fully relaxed and ready to have this baby. Won't be long now (fingers crossed)!

Bearly a good walk tonight

We went out for a stroll this evening to see if we can't get our little man a little more engaged than he's been showing lately. We came accross some nice little gosslings in Rocky Point and thought they were a decent show.

A few minutes later we came accross another bit of wildlife taking in the evening breeze. An escaped criminal! The local fuzz was all over him in hot persuit who snapped a couple of bean bag rounds at him to get the fur bag moving.

The photos from my new cell aren't stellar but they do the job....no easy blackberry shots anymore unfortunately!

Non stop excitement in Port Moody.

37 Weeks ... plus 4

We're in the final countdown these days and nothing could be more exciting.

Big daddy started a new job with BC Hydro last Monday so now that he's got some sea legs under him, bring on the next little challenge.

We've got the room ready, mom's got a new cell phone to let me know she's in labour, we know the way to the hospital through construction, we've got all the stuff we think we need (we think), we've got a camera ready to go, we just found out about mom and baby movies at the theatre, we've got dairy queen on the emergency line for backup blizzards, we've got the car seat installed, and re-installed....and taken out and reinstalled again, we've washed and rewashed all the new baby stuff, then folded and refolded then re-rinsed and refolded the crib sheets and washclothes and hooded towels and the onesies and twosies and the "how the hell do you fold these", the hospital bag is packed, and repacked, a cooler full of stuff ready to go for the birthing room (beer has been snuck in and taken out), date nights/afternoons/mornings have been taken care of before we becomes three, Jess has a freakin prenatal pedicure booked for this week (because we all know how important good looking toes are during the transition phase of labour), Roary the Lion has been keeping night watch but has been demanding danger pay for the future off gasing of the diaper pail....just have to settle on a name for this little man. Sir Hecules Einstien Hulsman Esquire just isn't cutting it with mom.
